CAMP - Bugs Life - ACT -June 2010

For the past 20 years I have been running camps for gifted and talented children in NSW for the NSWAGTC. This year the Association has decided to suspend this program, and so AGSC will now be offering camps. 

The strength of the camps has always been the children themselves. Giving gifted children the opportunity to spend time with like minded peers engaged in interesting or challenging activities and social experiences is vital for their wellbeing.

"If gifted and talented students are to achieve their potential, they require expanded educational opportunities beyond the scope of the regular school program.  The students need to explore different career options, crafts, ideas and skills that challenge their abilities. Our children need personal attention, adult commitment, role models they can admire and talk to."(Hegeman, 1987, p123) The camp aims to address some of these needs within a fun supportive environment.

BOOK EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT 

WHEN:             7pm  Friday 4th June 2010

                          3pm  Sunday 6^th June 2010

WHERE:          Shakespeare Centre, Cotter Road, Stromlo ACT

                        Families can be in the same room. Some rooms may have several families.

                        Camping and vans also permitted.                        

AGES:          7 – 14 year olds children under 8 years must be accompanied 

                    by a parent or guardian         

                        A separate program for 12 – 14 year olds will run 

                    Parents of all children are very welcome. 

 FEES:         Registration includes accommodation in shared bunk houses, all meals

                     and all activities, workshops and materials. Most special dietary

                     needs can be met.

PROGRAM:      

This will be an action packed camp with a wide range of activities. These activities will require your creative, imaginative, scientific and problem solving skills.  An understanding or great passion for bugs or other creepy crawlies is not essential – the range of activities will cover a variety of skills and interest  areas, with an underlying link to bugs and insect. There will be challenges and lots of fun.
